Burn Permits
Burn Permits are available at the Town Recycling Center (N7750 Hwy 65) during open hours (year round Saturdays 8am-4pm and 5pm - 8pm Summer Wednesdays). You may also get a burn permit from a town official outside of those hours.
Burn permits are good for the entire calendar year. Please be advised that once you receive your burn permit, you will need to contact the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department both BEFORE the burn is started and when the burn is COMPLETED. Residents near Pierce/St. Croix County border should also inform the St. Croix County Communication Center. The appropriate phone numbers will be listed on the burn permit.
The administrative rules of the State of Wisconsin, DNR Air Management and Solid Waste Management Programs, and River Falls Town Code allow you to burn: brush, clean wood, grass, dry leaves, or paper.
The rules prohibit anyone from burning any of the following materials under any conditions:
*Wet combustible rubbish, such as wet cardboard or paper
*Oily substances, such as oily or greasy rags, oil filters, etc.
*Asphalt, such as asphalt shingles or tar paper
*Plastics of any kind, including plastic bottles and plastic bags
*Wood products that are treated or painted
*Garbage
*Rubber tires
*Insecticide, pesticide and paint containers
*Any material that can be recycled
Fire Incident Charges
The Town of River Falls is part of the River Falls Rural Fire Association along with four other towns that surround the City of River Falls. The Rural Fire Association contracts with the City of River Falls to protect their residents from fire and fire-related hazards. Property owners are charged by the Town after an incident occurs that requires the fire department to respond.
The Town of River Falls adopted Ordinance No. 2010-2 which authorizes the recovery of fire department response fees. Cost recovery charges ( Resolution #2012-G) are listed to the right:
Recoverable Fire Department Response Fees
$800.00 All fire department calls, specifically including building fire, grass fire, vehicle fire, vehicle extrication, false alarms and rescues.
Vehicle Accident Response
$800.00 1 Vehicle*
$600.00/each 2 Vehicles*
$500.00/each 3 or more vehicles/each*
*Plus actual cost of any other expenses as determined by the River Falls Rural Fire Department.
Hazardous Materials Response
$800.00 Minimum charge or such greater amount for actual costs as may be charged for the specific call by the responding fire department(s).
Damage to Equipment Actual cost, net after applying available insurance coverage received.
Ambulance Service
The Town of River Falls contracts with the City of River Falls for ambulance service. Individuals who use the ambulance service are billed directedly by a medical billing service.
